Bathroom Taps
Bathroom
Taps are more complex than you might initially think. There are
different types of taps such as standard bath taps, bath fillers and
bath shower mixers. You would select the different type, depending
on your needs.
It's important
to decide what your main use for the bath is. This may sound a silly
suggestion, but you need to think about how many people use the bathroom
during busy periods. You may have a large family with everyone wanting
a shower before school or work. You may live on your own, hence your
bathing needs will be modest.
Does your family
take baths or showers, or a mixture of both?
Are you trying
to reduce your water bills and help the environment?
Bath
Shower Mixer Taps
The simplest,
space-saving way of installing a shower is to use a bath shower mixer.
This type of Bathroom Tap has a lever or a switch on your bath tap that
controls whether the water is sent to the shower head or the bath filler.
Fitting a Bath
Shower Mixer Tap is the easiest way to install a shower. The over-bath
solution uses the existing bath to capture used water and replaces existing
bath plumbing. These Bathroom Taps take water from both the hot and
the cold water supplies and mix the water inside the tap body. The
warm water mix is then controlled by the lever or switch and directs the
water to the bath filler, or up the hose to the head of the shower.
The pressure of
your water is important when selecting this type of bathroom tap. you
need to make sure that the water in the hot and cold supply is of the same
pressure. If, like most UK bathrooms, you have hot water supplied by
tank pressure and cold water supplied by the mains water system, there are
some options to consider:
You could
install a Venturi Shower, an Electric Shower, or fit an additional tank to
supply only low pressure cold water to the bath. If you would like
more advice on these systems, please e-mail our technical helpdesk at

where our Plumbing experts will be happy to help you choose the best
solution for your needs.
Don't forget
that any shower you install will require either a shower curtain, or a
shower screen, to make sure you don't soak your bathroom. The benefits
of installing a shower include:
Using less water
Using less Gas
or Electricity to heat your water.
Using this type
of bathroom tap saves you money.
Standard Bath Taps
Most homes in
the UK have standard individual bath taps for the hot and cold water
supplies. These taps tend to have similar design style to complement
the sink taps. Bath taps tend to be slightly larger. These taps
are usually fed by wider diameter pipes than sink taps. Remember that
Standard Bath Taps usually receive a greater flow of water than their
corresponding Sink Taps. The size of the valve inside the body of the
tap will affect the flow.
Bath
Fillers
Like Bath Shower
Mixer Taps, Bath Fillers work by mixing the hot and cold water inside the
tap body. Bath fillers do not have a lever or switch to direct the
water between a shower and the main bath water outlet. Why use a bath
filler rather than Standard Bath Taps? You can judge the temperature
of the mixed water as it comes out of the tap and your bath is filled
quicker. You don't have to wait around whilst you add extra hot or
cold water to get your bath the perfect temperature.
